S1000D Issue 4.1 Patch C – Recently there was a patch update to an earlier version of S1000D. The management committee at S1000D announced a minor patch update to Issue 4.1 of the specification, with patch 4.1 C.
Here is why Issue 4.1 was updated.
Many projects are using Issue 4.1, and this minor update will be of interest to them, especially those that are using the S1000D Common Information Repository (CIR) methodology. TDW has multiple tutorials on the CIR both on YouTube and the TDWPlus portal.
The changes have been nothing major, but to those that are using the Common Information Repository’s can now use S1000D defined Information Codes for Warnings of 0A4 and Cautions of 0A5. These are specifically for Warning and Cautions listed within the project CIRs.
Ensuring forward compatibility is essential for S1000D projects. These Information Codes are the same values that are available in the current Issue 5.0 of the specification, forward compatibility is, of course, ensured for those that will migrate to newer versions of the spec in the future.
The areas where the spec has changed to support these needed additions are the Short Definitions in Chapter 8.4.1, the Full Definitions in 8.4.2 and the S1000D Default BREX Module has been updated to include the patched update definitions.
So nothing earth-shattering in terms of a technical change to an earlier version fo S1000D. But a small and welcome one for some current S1000D projects.
S1000D Issue 4.1 including Patch C for existing users that s available at the all-new and updated official S1000D website: www.s1000d.org
A short and sharp one this week but an essential update to those using S1000D Issue 4.1 and the CIR capability in the spec as many projects are. It may just affect projects and may require some minor course corrections.
