FAA v MRO, Galileo Project, ALTAY and more – Thursday Thoughts Episode #9

This weeks Thursday Thoughts (Episode #9) LIVE was back and in the news this week we looked at all the industry news affecting technical publications, from Boeing and the 2m shortfall in aerospace workforce through to the Galileo project affected by Brexit and what could this all mean? We look at Mercedes Benz and their aspirations to remove printed handbooks for their vehicles and replace them with AR applications for their users. The Altay project in Turkey makes an appearance a project Mike knows very well.

Sorry we did not manage to get live last week, so here is a Thursday Thought we recorded – “this is going to be a BIG problem”

After we looked at the current news affecting the technical information domain, we then turned our eyes to the future and looked at Chrome with their AR support off-the-shelf, Biometric authentication for headsets, NASA and their acquisition of AR helmets and of course not to be out done – Samsung announcing their new AR/VR headset to be released shortly.

Tech Data Direct
Find your perfect partner

In the week that GPSL renewed their membership and support for Tech Data World, we looked at the all new Tech Data Direct, enabling our network to identify core competences within our vendor members, our latest PODCAST – “just because we produce modular data”, a fun video from our day out wit CDS Defence Support and the Army v Navy annual rugby match.

The questions we answered this week included, “Why does S1000D software cost so much?“, where we have produced a FREE tutorial for those who would like to see it, a reminder on GDPR and the importance of resubscribing to the TDW Newsletter as of the 25th May if you have not done so you will be removed from our system. A great question came in from one of our TD-iQ subscribers around the use of the RPC code, we have committed to creating a tutorial and will make this available to TD-iQ subscribers shortly.

Mike Ingledew

A trained aircraft engineer (rotorcraft), I entered in to the field of technical information writing S1000D data modules on a major European military platform.

After a series of high profile project roles and the privilege of supporting clients worldwide, I ended my 'employed' career at a subsidiary of Boeing Aircraft after I decided to leave and focus on TDW full-time.

From my time supporting clients worldwide, I could see that there was a market need for an independent organisation that could be a trusted advisory source for those needing to implement successful technical information strategies.

I am passionate about the art of technical communications and the process, software and skills needed in our market.
