TDW Training — What It Is, and Why It Delivers
TDW training is built for professionals who need to understand, not just comply.
We deliver independent, technically grounded training in Integrated Product Support (IPS), lifecycle data, the S-Series specifications, AI, and the application of AI to IPS. Our courses focus on how data is defined, governed, and used across the life of a product—not just how to follow a process or complete a deliverable.
What makes TDW training different is simple:
we teach the why, the trade-offs, and the consequences behind decisions.
Our training is trusted because it is:
Independent
No software, platform, or vendor agenda
Experience-led
Grounded in real programmes, not theory
Decision-focused
Built around judgement, not box-ticking
Relevant
Aligned to modern data, analytics, and AI-enabled environments
TDW is trusted by organisations worldwide because our training equips people to make confident, informed decisions long after the course ends—reducing risk, improving data quality, and strengthening long-term support outcomes.
We don't create dependency. We build capability.
Learning Through Realistic Programme Situations
TDW's approach to learning is grounded in realistic, end-to-end programme situations. Rather than teaching isolated concepts or abstract frameworks, we immerse learners in scenarios that mirror the complexity and interconnectedness of actual IPS programmes. This approach recognises that meaningful understanding emerges not from memorising procedures, but from experiencing how decisions cascade through a programme's lifecycle.
In these situations, learners encounter the reality that decisions made early in a programme have consequences that emerge much later. They learn to recognise Decision Boundaries—points where choices become constrained by earlier commitments. They discover Second-Order Effects that ripple through data structures, support strategies, and operational capabilities. Most critically, they confront Irreversible Lifecycle Decisions that cannot be undone without significant cost or disruption.
This learning environment emphasises judgement over compliance. Participants must evaluate trade-offs, anticipate downstream impacts, and understand where simplification becomes dangerous. The focus is on decisions before deliverables—recognising that the quality of outcomes depends fundamentally on the quality of choices made when options still exist.
Public descriptions of training necessarily simplify reality. What can be communicated in a website or brochure cannot capture the depth, nuance, and contextual richness required for genuine understanding. These limitations are intentional—they protect intellectual property while acknowledging that meaningful learning requires continuity, context, and the ability to explore consequences safely.
What Learners Develop
- •Recognition of how early programme decisions shape later outcomes
- •Ability to identify when choices are approaching irreversible boundaries
- •Understanding of how second-order effects propagate through complex systems
- •Judgement to distinguish between necessary simplification and dangerous oversimplification
Beyond this point, meaningful learning requires context and continuity. These discussions take place inside the SpiralLearn environment, where programme situations can be explored in depth, consequences can be traced through their full lifecycle, and decisions can be examined without the constraints of public communication.

We offer certificates for our training programmes, with our focus on practical, real-world, and relevant training that equips people to make confident, informed decisions long after the course ends.
What Happens After Training?
Training should not be the end of learning.
At TDW, it never is.
When people leave the room—whether that room is a classroom, a live online session, or a workshop—they are usually energised, informed, and thinking differently. The real question is what happens next, when they return to live projects, real pressures, and real decisions.
This is where TDW is deliberately different.
Step 1: Training That Builds Understanding, Not Dependency
TDW training is designed to give people:
- a clear mental model of how IPS and data decisions connect
- the confidence to question assumptions
- an understanding of consequence, not just process
But we are realistic: even the best training cannot be absorbed fully in one moment.
That is why training is only the first step.
Step 2: SpiralLearn — Reinforcing Knowledge Over Time
After training, learners gain access to SpiralLearn, TDW's learning platform.
SpiralLearn allows individuals and teams to:
- revisit concepts when they become relevant in real projects
- refresh understanding before key decision points
- reduce reliance on memory or interpretation
- maintain consistency across teams and over time
Learning becomes contextual and continuous, not event-based.
SpiralLearn ensures that training knowledge is not lost—it is retained, reinforced, and applied.
Step 3: SpiralView — Making Understanding Visible
Understanding becomes far more powerful when it can be seen.
SpiralView allows organisations to:
- visualise how data, decisions, and lifecycle elements connect
- explore structure, flow, ownership, and consequence
- test thinking without committing to tools or platforms
- align teams around a shared understanding
This bridges the gap between knowing and doing.
SpiralView turns training insight into something teams can work with, not just remember.
Step 4: Ongoing, Independent Support (When Needed)
Some organisations want more than reinforcement—they want a sounding board.
TDW provides independent advisory support to:
- challenge assumptions as projects evolve
- validate decisions before they become commitments
- support audits, reviews, and course corrections
- maintain clarity as complexity increases
This support is optional, deliberately light-touch, and designed to strengthen internal capability, not replace it.
Note: Within reason, students can contact TDW for follow-up questions after training. Depending on the level and complexity of questions, a separate support contract may be required.
The Result
Instead of training being a moment in time, it becomes a capability pathway.
Organisations gain:
- consistent understanding across teams
- reduced rework and interpretation drift
- stronger data ownership and governance
- confidence at decision points
- learning that endures beyond the classroom

So What Happens When Your People Leave the Room?
They don't start from scratch.
They don't rely on memory.
They don't face decisions alone.
They leave with a framework, a reference point, and a way to keep learning—long after the training ends.
Delivered by application.
TDW Decision Engineering Workshop
Structured Activation for IPS & S-Series Projects
Most organisations think they need specification training. What they actually need is clarity around the decisions that will define their IPS and S-Series programme for years to come.
IPS, S-Series, and AI-enabled programmes don't fail because teams don't understand the specifications—they fail because early decisions were made too quickly, in isolation, or never formally engineered at all.
This workshop is not traditional training and not vendor-led consulting. It is a structured intervention where your organisation begins engineering its IPS & S-Series decision framework—with decisions captured in a controlled environment designed to sustain governance long after the session ends.
What you leave with
- •A defined decision framework for IPS & S-Series adoption
- •Documented assumptions, constraints, and early risk points
- •Governance foundations started (principles, ownership, traceability)
- •A structured forward pathway for implementation and tool selection
- •The basis of your project decisions captured within the IPS Toolkit
Who it's for
- •Teams about to start an IPS / S-Series programme (or reboot a struggling one)
- •Organisations selecting S1000D or IPS infrastructure and needing clarity first
- •Programmes that need defensible decisions, audit trail, and future-proofing
- •Customers who want to reduce dependence on vendor narratives
Not a CSDB. Not an authoring tool. Not a slide-only course.
